“Great hotel for those staying with a dog.”
The location was ideal for dog owners, with several country parks nearby for walks, especially Newmillerdam just 100 m down the road offering both long and short loops. Our room was larger, giving us room to keep the dog bed and bowls out of the way. In addition to dining in the hotel lounge, there were other dog‑friendly pubs close by. I liked that dogs weren’t allowed in the restaurant, but I expected the staff to set up the breakfast table with basics like cutlery and condiments; we had to find those ourselves. I’m not convinced the Sunday morning breakfast was worth it because the hot buffet selection was poor. Saturday morning was much better with more options. My tip: check whether the buffet is in the restaurant or served in the bar before booking.
“Amazing stay”
The room, staff and service were amazing, and everything was perfect—nothing to complain about.
Staff were lovely breakfast was very good. Restaurant tables were sticky possibly because of varnish on them so could do with up dating. The shower over the bath didn't have anything to stop you slipping either mat or stickers would be a good idea
“A mediocre experience for a Saturday night”
Parking was plentiful, even on a Saturday night, and the front desk greeted us warmly. The room was tidy and had the basics. However, it was bare and dim; the high ceiling made the walls feel close. We were given an adjoining room and could hear everything in the next room, including someone on the phone. We ended up checking out because we preferred staying at home. Not sure why this place is considered award‑winning.
“Comfortable stay close to great places to visit in Wakefield”
The staff were friendly, and the lake was close enough to walk around.
