A 4 euro ferry to Sorrento (and options to Capri) leaves just across the road; the area feels very local but was one of our favourite spots; the apartment is very secure and spacious, with eggs, cereal and other breakfast items ready in the morning; the host was lovely and full of recommendations, and there are great cafés and restaurants nearby; the lift was a bit dodgy and broke down one day

Close to the port for ferries to Amalfi, Capri, etc.; the host was welcoming and very communicative; street noise is an issue if you leave the windows open

I couldn’t find a secure spot for my car in Naples, so I headed to Castellamare di Stabia, and I’m happy I did: the train station is close, making it easy to reach Pompeii and Naples with cheap tickets; there’s paid parking right across the hotel for 25 euros a day; the room has a port view, is very clean and spacious; the owner is welcoming; the small seaside station has a pleasant, calm vibe and the people are friendly; the B&B is hard to find, on the 3rd floor of a building whose ground floor is very dirty; you have to watch your WhatsApp because the owner sends key‑pickup info right before arrival; there’s normally no personalized check‑in in the afternoon, which panicked me because I didn’t see the WhatsApp message and couldn’t get into the B&B, feeling like I was in an abandoned building; the keys are in a code box next to the mailboxes on the ground floor; once past the B&B door, the cleanliness is impressive compared to the rest of the building; breakfast needs improvement; the bedding was somewhat soft and the air conditioning was annoying; the bathroom VMC is quite noisy, and you can hear the neighbors
