The Strand, Yangon

I had read a lot about the famous Strand Hotel. Opened in 1901 by the Sarkies Brothers, the same family behind Singapore's Raffles, it has long been one of Yangon’s most iconic heritage hotels. I stayed there on my last night in Yangon. Thank you for the wonderful attention and the upgrade to a lovely suite. The hotel is within walking distance of many interesting sites in Yangon. I enjoyed an evening drink at the bar and admired the barkeeper’s skill in creating new cocktails. A special highlight was the breakfast menu — I found one of the best local dishes of my trip there, the chicken soup.

“Totally worthwhile for such a historic venue. Great staff and atmosphere throughout.”

The staff were very attentive. The hotel offers good value for money and preserves its old‑world charm. We enjoyed all our meals, from high tea to dinner to breakfast. We even received a room upgrade since there weren’t many guests that day. The shower in the bathroom, unlike the bathtub, did not provide hot water.

A very special place with historic significance and lots of charm. The staff are so very friendly. The rooms are gorgeous and unique. The hotel could use an update, especially the plumbing and bathroom. We didn't get hot water during our stay

“Beautiful hotel with fabulous character , it’s like walking back in time, it’s over 100 years old and very famous people”

The staff here are fantastic; when I first arrived without a Myanmar visa they kindly rescheduled my visit at no extra cost, a true 5‑star service. The price is very reasonable for such a great hotel. Book it if you’re heading to Rangoon—you won’t regret it. Nothing else to note.
