“Haus mit hübschem Garten aber vielen Nachteilen”
Overall, we liked the Mami Wata House. The rooms and beds were cozy, the garden was very pretty with a wonderful baobab tree, and the pool was a pleasant size. The gardener, the caretaker, and the young man on night duty were all very friendly and helpful. However, there were several things we didn’t like. The house is a 10 to 15‑minute walk from the beach, which isn’t far, but the path is hot and dusty during the day and pitch black at night, so you need a flashlight and don’t feel very safe. In the first few days, the two dogs on the property—especially the big one—were very clingy, so we couldn’t leave the room without encountering him or him blocking the way. He also used the pool, which we found unhygienic. After we mentioned this to the owner, the dogs were moved to a neighboring house. We also had to complain about torn towels that we received at the start (which other guests had already mentioned in reviews). After that, the staff accused us of a communication problem. They had previously told us that we had to contact the boss, who was traveling and we didn’t want to disturb him during his vacation. You also need to realize that privacy is limited; our neighbors always had to pass by our room doors and windows to get onto the property. Breakfast over eleven days consisted of fruit, toast with the same jam, and eggs. There was no variety, so we had to get our own muesli and yogurt. All of this led us to find another hotel for the last five nights. Even though we had already stayed eleven nights there, the owner was not willing to offer us a financial concession.
