“Excellent”
The setting was amazing and the staff were excellent, though it was a bit quiet—probably because it was winter.

The hotel is gorgeous, tucked just off Main Street in Franschhoek yet giving the feel of the countryside; the pool is lovely with thoughtful sunscreen baskets, and the restaurants are fabulous with great wine tasting.

The location is great, the team is helpful and friendly, and it feels like a private, quiet home away from home right on Main Street in Franschhoek; the breakfast at the Protege restaurant is excellent every day.

We’ve always valued our stays at LQF, and our February 2024 visit still found the property exceptionally comfortable with beautifully manicured grounds that create a serene, luxurious atmosphere—classic reasons we keep coming back. However, this time the experience felt a bit different, lacking the recognition and personal touch we’re used to. Dining at The Dining Room at Leeu Estate fell short of the standard we expected, with staff seeming uncertain about the menu and the overall fine‑dining vibe; it was also surprising that the Michelin recognition didn’t seem widely understood. At the pool, we were served Moët & Chandon Rosé instead of Brut, showing the waiter’s limited knowledge. The checkout process could have been smoother—we weren’t asked to return the room key and only realized afterward that we’d left it behind.

This hotel is a hidden gem in the heart of Franschhoek. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, making it feel like a tranquil oasis in the midst of the bustling town. The excellent breakfast was a highlight of our stay, and my wife was thoroughly impressed. It's clear the hotel's owners have put a lot of thought into creating a welcoming atmosphere.
