The staff were helpful and the parking lot is large. We booked a suite for my birthday weekend to enjoy a touch of luxury, and my partner, an early riser, needed a separate space to have tea without disturbing me—this was perfect. However, on arrival there was no reception staff, so we had to wait to be checked in. When we entered our “suite,” the floors were dirty, there were dead insects on the windowsills, used hair grips were left by the tea facilities, the bathroom was filthy, and the toilet didn’t work, leaking onto the floor. I went back to reception and was told I wasn’t staying in the “suite,” so they offered to move me to a “family room” instead of another suite. That room wasn’t much better: no main light, only four tiny wall‑mounted lights that barely illuminated the space. The finishings were poor everywhere, though at least the bathroom was clean this time. The floor still wasn’t good. I was refunded the difference between the two rooms, and that was it. Very disappointed—it ruined what should have been a lovely birthday treat. It’s a shame because the hotel has the potential to be amazing. At least the parking is nice; just remember to register on arrival.

The staff were friendly, and the restaurant and bar manager was eager to chat. The room on the upper floor was a decent size with a reasonable layout. Dinner (fish and chips) was disappointing; the fish portion looked reheated from a packet and not freshly cooked. When I ordered a pint, the bartender had to point out that I was getting the dregs of the barrel, though they did replace it with a fresh one. The HVAC in the room was non‑functional, so I received an electric heater to warm the space. The executive double room is advertised as having a bath and a shower, but the room I stayed in had no bath.

The front‑facing ground was pleasant and parking was easy, but the building extensions look dated and our bedroom overlooked a huge empty carpark. The breakfast buffet was sparse and only average. The gym and pool weren’t included in the booking and required extra payment. The reception’s meet‑and‑greet felt neither welcoming nor warm.

There’s almost nothing to like here. It isn’t priced as a budget hotel, yet it feels like a Crossroads motel – shabby, despite the photos that suggest a nice country hotel. Every little extra costs, from the pool to the towel. Breakfast is pricey and basic.
