The spot is very pretty, tucked in a small farm, and the cabin is charming – you can even see the auroras from the courtyard. The microwave doesn’t work on the outlet (we had to move it to the floor to plug it elsewhere), and there’s no tea bags or instant coffee for a hot drink in the morning, which is a bit disappointing for the price.

I was excited by the location and the interesting interior, just a short walk from the ferry and set in a quiet, scenic spot under the mountains by the sea. We had to search a bit to find where we’d actually stay; the dishes weren’t clean and we had to wash them ourselves, and the price didn’t include bedding. Cleaning must be done by guests or you’ll be charged 1000 NOK, which explains the lack of cleanliness. We slept on mattresses upstairs where space was tight and the ceiling low, so getting dressed was a hassle.

Getting to the cabin from the ferry was easy and quick. Contrary to the description, our small cabin Sjåen had its own bathroom with hot water, shower, and toilet. The kitchen was enough for a short stay for two—one stove burner, kettle, coffee machine, oven—and had the basics for cooking. The bedroom was reachable by stairs, small but very cozy, and the shoe dryer was a great bonus after long, wet hikes. We had expected a warmer welcome; we were only briefly shown to the place, and no details were given about paid linen, a bookable breakfast or dinner, or the sauna. One burner was sufficient for cooking, but two would have been ideal.

The sauna was fantastic, and the host couple were friendly. The shop was not nearby, but that was known beforehand.
