“Beautiful location, disappointing lodge.”
The lodge’s location is spectacular. Isak was a great guide and host, and all the other staff were extremely friendly. The early‑morning ride after sunrise was special. We had a great time on the patio, watching the beautiful sunset. The starry Namibian night sky was amazing. The location is wonderful, but it almost doesn’t make up for everything else that was wrong. The rooms were just adequate, with very outdated décor that is not to be expected from such a high‑priced establishment. There were very few plugs and no place to charge cell phones. The beds were comfortable but definitely not luxurious. Two of our four rooms had blocked wash basins, and one room was missing the remote for the fan. Some rooms were missing towels; they were brought later in the evening, but after an 8‑hour travel we wanted to shower right away. The towels were also very small and skimpy. The communal lounge and dining room were quite small and cramped. Luckily we didn’t have to share with other guests, as our group of eight were the only people there. The fridge could hardly store any of our personal stuff because it was full of kitchen supplies. We were only supplied with a few ice cubes and 600 ml of milk for coffee between 8 of us. Bottled water could be bought for N$175 for 5 liters. Water should be given for free to every guest, at least a 500 ml bottle per guest per day. Supper was average; the soup starter came from a packet or a tin. The main meal was steak, which was okay, but dessert was a very small and dry piece of carrot cake. Breakfast was underwhelming but adequate. This review might seem a bit harsh, but this night was supposed to be our best stay out of a 15‑day road trip, judging by the price. Apart from the incredible location and friendly staff, it was a disappointment. I have read the other reviews on this site, and the only conclusion I can reach is that us locals expect a bit more value for our money compared to many overseas visitors with their Euros.
