The hotel was spotless and the room was cozy; the staff were approachable and helpful.

Breakfast was acceptable, though some items weren't hot. The room’s cleanliness left something to be desired: the bed seemed used and the sheets hadn’t been changed. An upgrade could have improved the look. I paid a price comparable to an upscale hotel, so I expected a far better room.

The complimentary breakfast was generous and the location suited our needs. The room, however, smelled musty with a strange chemical odor, and I saw ants crawling on the floor and windowsill. I reported it to the front desk, which said no other rooms were available and claimed they have no pest problem, are inspected, and treated weekly. Apparently they had found ants earlier and tried to treat them, but the effort failed. By then it was too late to move to another hotel, so I ended up killing over two dozen ants myself. Luckily none made it into the bed. The front desk staff couldn’t resolve the issue, and the manager was not reachable until I emailed him. Major problems should be handled promptly without requiring a customer to contact the manager.

Pool area was clean, breakfast was good and remodeled room without carpet. The second night we killed 5 crickets and 2 we couldn’t find that chirped the entire night. It was the night before our Son-in-law’s White Coat ceremony for Mes School at University of Iowa in Iowa City. We were frustrated with the irritating sound all night and kept thinking it would just stop. We are farmers and travel all over the world and understand a cricket but several when there were none the night before seemed suspicious! It took a couple of emails to get a response and we were offered 10% off the rack rate (which I have no idea what that means) on our next stay. I think we will try a different hotel next time!!!
