Daniel and his family made us feel right at home, serving tasty meals with solid vegetarian options and guiding us on transport and local activities; the day hike with Daniel was informative even if we didn’t spot any wildlife, and the basket‑weaving, bracelet‑making and dolphin‑watching were all a lot of fun. San Martin de Amacayacu is a tiny, friendly village where the open communal area feels welcoming, and the locals are genuinely warm. Booking directly by phone or WhatsApp saves a lot compared to online platforms, but be prepared for very basic facilities – no running water, limited electricity and internet (only a few hours in the morning and evening), and you’ll need to bring your own food or pay extra per meal since there are no shops.

Andres and his family run an incredible spot – after jungle walks they greet you with fresh juice and always have cold water ready for refilling bottles. The simple room was surprisingly comfortable, with the mosquito net tucked under the mattress, and the food was delicious and plentiful, even for a vegetarian like me.
