“Poorly kept up Riad”
I booked the whole Riad after checking photos and reviews, but the reality was far from what I’d seen online: the rooms were shabby with peeling paint, holes in the walls, chipped furniture, almost broken doors, stained rugs, faucets that stuck out of the sink, and one even had a rusted fridge. The outdoor suite area had cushions in terrible condition and weeds overgrown everywhere. The patio glass door wouldn’t close properly, making the woman I put there feel unsafe. I did get the manager to replace the worn towels, but rooms weren’t cleaned unless we asked, and there was often no staff around. Once I had to let a delivery man in because he’d been knocking for so long. Breakfast was okay and the beds were comfortable, which is why I’m giving it a slightly higher score than I would normally. A part of my group stayed at the newer riad next door, and the difference in hospitality, upkeep, and thoughtful details was so stark that I felt embarrassed about the portion that stayed at Tassili. Everyone in my group said Tassili was bad, which was frustrating. Someone had stayed there a couple of days before and left a proper bad review; the manager mistakenly thought it was my friend and tried to get the review removed, which made me wonder if they were policing reviews to hide the true experience.
