After many years of traveling together, we’ve never enjoyed a stay as much as the days we spent at Etxatoa. Iñaki is an ideal host: knowledgeable, helpful, and attuned to guests’ needs—a true Basque gentleman. He prepares a magnificent breakfast each morning, served at a communal table that sparks conversation among a diverse and interesting group of lodgers. The house itself—centuries old—and the tiny hillside village are enchanting, and the area is full of wonders: ancient dolmens a short walk away, magnificent caves a few miles down the road, an ancient church with its bell above the town. The furnishings aren’t fancy but everything fits comfortably; you feel like staying in a friend’s home. I would love to stay at Etxatoa forever. We liked it all.

The house itself exudes peace and serenity, and especially the closeness and hospitality of its owner Iñaki, who was very attentive throughout. An excellent person.

It’s hard to pinpoint what was best about the stay. The surroundings were wonderful. The house was cozy and lovely. And most importantly, the host was kind and helpful. The breakfast prepared by the host was delightful, spiced with his stories. We’d love to visit again. We didn’t like that our stay was only three nights, so we had to leave the place again.

The house, the room, and the location were all amazing; the surroundings were calm and beautiful, and there were plenty of hiking options nearby. The host was incredibly friendly and supplied all the useful information and tips about the area. The breakfast was very delicious—especially the local milk products and honey—and I absolutely loved it, so I’ll definitely come back.
