The Roça is gorgeous, with staff who are always attentive and extremely friendly. They keep the rooms well stocked with water. The small lunch menu is varied and good quality. The view of the plantation is lovely, and the transfer service and island tours are all arranged so guests feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. The Roça is far from everything, but that’s part of the charm. Nothing to criticize.

It’s unbelievable that they charge for transfers at times that differ from the standard schedule to the beaches. With plenty of people available and few guests, charging for a trip after the price paid is insane.

The location is fantastic, with its history, environment, plantation, and social experiment. The house is old, so it’s not for those who want beaches, pools, and modern settings; it’s for people who appreciate age, history, balconies, and great food. The staff could be more customer‑focused; speaking the language is not enough, they need a can‑do attitude and a willingness to help.

The building is wonderful and the staff extremely helpful. The breakfast is magnificent. The activities are well thought out and interesting, offering a serene place to rest and explore the island. There isn’t a lot to do once you’re at the Roça, but that’s the point – enjoy the place with a book and a drink.
