Le Mirage Desert Lodge & Spa feels like a castle in the middle of the desert. The scenery is stunning, and the whole place feels like a little oasis out in the middle of nowhere. Our room was amazing and had AC, though we didn’t need it in August; the thick stone walls kept it naturally cool during the day. There’s a cold outdoor pool that’s perfect for cooling down on hot days. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming—we really felt at home. There’s even a waterhole where you can spot jackals, oryx, springboks, and ostriches. One of our favorite moments was the sundowner by the fireplace, with a bar serving cocktails. Dinner and breakfast were also excellent. A special shout‑out to Abraham, our guide for the Sossusvlei tour; he was charming, generous, and an outstanding driver. His knowledge of the area and navigation skills were impressive, especially when driving up Big Daddy and along the side of the dune. Le Mirage is also a fantastic place for stargazing; on a clear night you can see a huge number of stars and maybe even catch a glimpse of the Milky Way. One thing to keep in mind: the C‑roads to and from Le Mirage are not in the best condition, so take your time and be ready for some rough driving. If you run into trouble with your rental car, the staff are very helpful and happy to assist. Overall, it was a truly special place and one of our favorite stays in Namibia.
The accommodation was great, the staff were super nice, and the location itself was simply relaxing. The food was also tasty, but unfortunately there was no vegetarian option for all courses, only for the main dish. The overnight cost is a bit high, and you can tell that some things are a bit dated—like the floors, the peeling paint, and the slightly weathered doors.
Everything was very beautiful and thoughtfully detailed, but the pool and its sun‑beds were too few for the number of guests.
“Wonderful setting and location. The staff went out of their way!”
The character and the staff were awesome. The internet access was very poor.
“Good but not Great.”
The building looks amazing, and the snack plate and warm towel at check‑in were nice touches. The ATV tour was definitely worth it. The risotto at dinner was undercooked and inedible, and there were too many servers with poor coordination. Breakfast was solid—especially the waffle guy—though I’d have liked milk on the table for my coffee. The credit‑card terminal at checkout was broken, and the staff seemed clueless about what to do; I had to spend extra time figuring it out instead of paying with my card on file. I ended up paying in American dollars because I didn’t carry a lot of Namibian cash.
