The night that could have been pleasant turned into a cold ordeal. The window opened, letting in bugs and a huge chill throughout the night. The noise at 23:30 was unbearable, and to check out I had to wander around the bar looking for the receptionist. The emergency plan was written in a pen and completely illegible.

“Excellent. I can't really add anything else.”

The hotel is excellent and the staff are very friendly, remembering your name so you feel 'at home' and start talking to them as if you've known them for years. I booked four nights and added three more. The location is a strong point; you can walk to Fort William and hike part of the West Highland Way up the Caledonian Canal, or all the way to Achnacarry and the Clan Cameron museum—great for touring too. Harry Potter fans will see the steam train passing several times a day (when in season), but for me it’s always The Jacobite. I’ve stayed in many 'highland' hotels that feel a bit tired due to the business and climate, but The Moorings Hotel doesn’t feel tired. Breakfast is great with a decent selection, and the evening meals are worth the money and plentiful—definitely try the Sticky toffee pudding. I’ll stay here again without hesitation; it’s now my 'go to' hotel in the Highlands. I’ve had many rooms over the years and all are fine. The only downside is the top car park fills quickly, especially with vans; the spaces are first come first served, so it would make sense for larger vehicles to use the lower car park.

The room was a good size, comfortable, and cozily decorated. I especially liked the bathroom, which is spacious and looked newly refurbished—something I pay a lot of attention to. The staff were very friendly. There’s no lift, which wasn’t a problem for me since I can carry my suitcase, but other people might need to consider that, and the place isn’t very well soundproofed.

“This is not a four star hotel. Facilities very old & used. Very overpriced. Would not recommend or s”

Breakfast apparently wasn’t included so had to pay extra for it. It was ok Staff were pleasant. Room needed updating. . Bathroom tiles dirty, shower pressure non existent, dirty, old shower curtain. Chair in bedroom had large stain on the seat?? Bed very uncomfortable
