The room had a kitchenette, so we could cook for ourselves, which was useful since the hotel is a bit outside. The view of the shipyard and harbor was great, and in the mornings ships for river cruises arrived and departed suddenly, and you could also see passing ships on the North Sea. The balcony was wonderful – sun and view of the harbor and lake. The room spanned two floors. The winding staircase was very steep and the steps were very short, creating a fall risk – especially at night (bathroom and toilet were in the lower area). For longer stays there were no shelves.

The decor and on‑site bar/restaurant were nice. The staff wasn’t very helpful or friendly. When I asked for an iron and board, they said they might not have one available, which would have been unacceptable for the price we paid. Luckily they did have one, but the lady at the desk was not very welcoming. At arrival we mentioned we had a dog (which was allowed in our room). The lady looked at us very suspiciously, as if we should have told them earlier. We had to pay 19 € for the dog but received nothing in return (no bowl or anything). Some hotels offer dog beds, bowls and food for that money.

The hotel is quietly located just outside the center, yet within walking distance of the old market with its restaurants and terraces. The room was spacious and the balcony with a view of the water was a real plus. The breakfast buffet was extensive with very friendly staff.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast selection was diverse and tasty, while the hotel’s architecture looked great. However, the kitchen’s hot‑water tap was blocked, and because the air‑conditioning units had to be installed under the windows—probably due to the design—the room became quite cool to cold after sunset even after I kept raising the temperature. Dust was not effectively removed, and the toilet lid wasn’t securely fastened, though the helpful staff fixed that quickly once I mentioned it. A few light bulbs in the suite flickered, and the rental bikes needed a check: one bike’s brake didn’t work, and the only other bike available had both lights off, which I only noticed in the evening. All of these issues are easily resolved and shouldn’t affect future stays.
