We found a lovely corner in nature with a direct drop to a stream; the house was equipped, clean, and the beds were comfortable, just as the photos showed. The service was outstanding—when we hit a Wi‑Fi glitch on our second day, they immediately upgraded us to their gorgeous hotel. The only downside was the need to watch the stairs inside the house.

Being close to the river and the quiet you crave outside big cities was a plus, but we couldn’t get internet through the installed router even though we could see the network.

I think it’s a solid choice. Overall, everything was good, especially the friendly staff at Hotel Douro Cister from the same group. Plus, these homes sit right on the Varosa River—fantastic. A small issue was the lack of reading lamps; the lighting in the rooms could really use a rethink. That’s the only thing I didn’t like. Lighting matters for warmth, and here it’s pretty neglected. Also, the outdoor tables and chairs could be nicer; the current café patio set looks awful (my personal view). They’re just plain café patio furniture with a flimsy design.

The convenience was great, but it would be better if all windows had blackout curtains.
