There was no breakfast, and the appliances and rules were not ideal.

The people were great, and it was close to public transport, food spots, a kitchen, and laundry facilities; the bathroom was clean with strong shower pressure. It was quiet most of the time, which was nice after a day out in the city. I’m not used to sleeping with a heat pump on, so it was a bit hard to sleep when the room tried to accommodate everyone's temperature preferences, especially since I was coming from a summer climate into autumn.

Not much to say. The place was pretty clean, the owner was a nice man, and the living room and dining room were spacious and tidy. However, this is more a boarding house where people with jobs live. The title “hostel style” implies four people per room, and those rooms are small and not particularly attractively decorated. The room with three women was so cluttered with all their stuff that I stayed in the other mixed dorm room (I was the only one there, but I would never stay in a mixed dorm room if I didn’t feel so uncomfortable with the other room). There are signs all around the home reminding you to be quiet because people are sleeping, and I tried to do that, but the three people who live there were all on different schedules, including overnight, and I always felt like I needed to be quiet because I never knew who was in their room. One of those tenants made tons of noise, though, at all hours. I thought something was a bit odd about the many 5‑star reviews for this accommodation, because most of them are the same one‑word. The owner is actually a very nice man. I found out from him that his profession is airline attendant. Obviously all those reviews were from his friends and colleagues, so not very balanced. He also told me that he thought the price for what he offers is a good deal compared to San Francisco. In this case, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. While hostels in the city can be expensive at times, depending on events in town, I know for a fact that most of them charge what he charges and at times even less. In fact, the weekend I stayed, the rates at popular SF hostels were lower than what I paid him. Daly City is a dud of a place with nothing to really recommend it for a visitor. Not for tourists unless you’re desperate for a place for one night. I had booked four nights, but left halfway because I was so uncomfortable.

The location is nice if you’re working on business in South San Francisco.
