I was thoroughly impressed with the high level of service and couldn't fault the culinary offerings.
I loved the hotel's prime location, right at the entrance of the reserve, making it easily accessible from Pretoria.
The rooms were clean, and I especially loved the outdoor shower.

“Prima locatie ; we hebben ons goed vermaakt”
The staff were friendly and they offered game‑drive options, but the Wi‑Fi was at best spotty and often unusable; you also have to pay for a second cup of coffee at breakfast even though that isn’t mentioned anywhere. Cleaning crews would enter the cottage without asking whenever we weren’t there, which felt intrusive and unnecessary. The water trough for the wildlife isn’t refilled, and I suspect that if it were, the animals might stay longer during their stop‑over.
“Aanrader! Geweldige sfeer”
The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, offering a very personal touch and always ready to help. The lodge sits in a lovely spot, feels spacious, and the little fire pit next to the cottages is a nice touch. It also features authentic details like a lapa and a beautiful waterhole where you can watch the wildlife. A bonus is the clear map of the local roads, which makes exploring easy even for first‑time visitors or those driving themselves.
“Kwalata getaway.”
The staff were friendly, the accommodation was good, and the facilities were great. Everything met our expectations.
“Very stressful and unpleasant vacation”
Most people were friendly, but this place is far from tranquil and comfortable. The N1 noise is constant, and on weekends you hear music from a nearby town, so we couldn’t sleep until 5 am the first night. The receptionist was rude, gave us no explanation other than we had to drive to our chalet, handed us the keys, and told us the game drives were fully booked; the only drive available was early the morning of checkout. So the claim that you can book drives at the property is false. Our room was next to the kitchen, so by 6 am the staff were already working, chatting, moving, and dragging things around. The next days we woke up earlier to the noise and the generator’s smell, which was right next to that room. The room was so dark we had to keep the lights on all day and night. They didn’t provide hand towels or soap; instead they gave us bath towels and asked us to use shower gel. The food was average and took a long time to prepare, even though on the second day there were only a few visitors. Once you book you discover there is a fee to enter the reserve whether you’re self‑driving or booked through the lodge. The lady on the evening shift was kind and could arrange our drives, and the rangers were also kind and knowledgeable.
“It was not what we expected: disappointing.”
Sinah from reception was always friendly and helpful. Game drive was lovely. The accommodation was sub-standard. For the price we paid we were very disappointed. The linen is very old and definitely needs upgrading. Nothing seemed to match. We were advised there was a coffee machine which there was not. Not sure if coffee was supposed to be supplied but there was exactly 1 stick of coffee in the containers. We had to go out and buy our own coffee. There were a few mugs and glasses, nothing else. No cutlery at all. Not even a dish towel or dish soap to wash the used cups. The cooked breakfast was average. The food was mostly cold unfortunately. Eggs were pre-cooked so were cold when dished up. Restaurant service and staff and kitchen need more training
