Huge home‑cooked meals were offered at a reasonable price, and the breakfast was good and filling. The owner was generally helpful, responsive, and easy to communicate with, and the village had a charming local feel. However, the room was infested with mosquitoes and no net was provided even after we mentioned it. There was no electricity except at night; the owner switched off the generator for our room at 07:00, making it impossible to sleep because of the heat and mosquitoes when the fan/AC stopped. I had planned to relax in the room expecting an “ocean holiday,” so that was very disappointing. Staying in the room was impossible between 7 am and 6 pm due to heat and mosquitoes. The boat ride from Bira to the island cost 150 000 each way, which is mad pricing. The beach is not suitable for Western women to wear bikinis, as it has a very local vibe and the rooms are right next to the family’s hang‑out area. It’s also not a great spot for swimming. The drinking water tasted awful, and we didn’t dare to drink it because the tank was exposed to the sun most of the day, likely heating the water and leaching plastic.
