The room felt very authentic and the mattresses were comfortable compared to traditional ones. The private onsen was a real experience and we enjoyed it a lot. First, set expectations—this is a traditional experience, meaning the food is traditional (we had some of the evening dishes, but breakfast didn’t resonate; try the “western” option). The host entered and left the room constantly, and her assistant unfolded and opened the beds—there was no sense of calm or privacy. The dinner was at 18:30, so you must be in the room by 18:15, and from then until 19:30 people keep coming in and out, folding, serving, etc. Breakfast was at 8:30; at 8:00 a person entered to adjust mattresses and tables, so you’re already forced to get out of your pajamas or move around, and by 9:30 privacy is gone again. In short, it’s not for everyone, but it’s a nice one‑off experience. The shower in the room was old and unpleasant, and there was no soap or shampoo (all of that was in the onsen). So if you want a once‑in‑a‑while Japanese experience, this place fits. If you want a modern, western‑style hotel night or just a rest after a day of touring, it’s less suitable.

The location and private onsen were great, and a few staff members—especially a young man—were very friendly and helpful. The interior felt a bit outdated and worn, and the food was disappointing with little flavor and scarce instructions on how to prepare or eat it. The hostess only spoke Japanese and barely explained the process. The biggest issue was that the food tasted nothing at all. The duvet cover didn’t cover the whole duvet, which felt unhygienic.

The sound of the river at night was great; it helped me recover from my week in Tokyo. It’s a shame it was only one night.
