The location, breakfast, and parking were very original, but the room was very hot.

We stayed in the city centre and enjoyed the location, but the lack of air conditioning made it unbearably hot, and without an elevator we had to lug our luggage up the stairs. To top it off, early in the morning the hotel began replacing carpets and the renovation noise woke us up.

Nothing positive at all. Within minutes of entering our room a damp, moldy smell caused throat irritation, breathing difficulties, and coughing fits. In addition, a strong room‑parfum scent in the entrance area and corridors intensified the discomfort. Under those conditions staying was impossible. No compensation was offered after the cancellation. The Laur Hotel can do nothing more, as we had booked through them.

The suite I booked was a fully equipped apartment in the neighbouring building of a late‑medieval row of houses in the charming, well‑maintained town of Schärding. The tourist quality of the area is high, with many picturesque viewpoints overlooking the hilly town and the surrounding river landscape. While having breakfast, a photographer was present, continuously taking photos of drinks and food (probably for a future menu), yet none of the staff asked me if I wanted to order any of these items “à la carte.” Conversation with me was avoided except for two coffee orders, apparently because my waiter’s German was too limited. The other staff seemed shy and are probably trainees who need to be encouraged by management to actively greet and say goodbye to guests and to offer food and drinks. The price list on the table confused me, as it did not refer to the special “all‑inclusive tariff” for hotel guests.
