“Schöne Villa, aber in der Hochsaison leider zu laute Parties gegenüber”
The villa itself is gorgeous and the staff and the contact with the friendly host are very good. The photos match reality exactly and the rooms are very tasteful. We received many tips and were well supported for all activities, from laundry service to the TukTuk safari, everything worked wonderfully. The villa is only a few steps from the sea and all restaurants and cafés are easily reachable. Unfortunately, directly opposite the villa is a beach club. We were warned beforehand that there are wild parties on Wednesdays, but we didn’t realize it was a techno party with bass that goes until 4 am. Without earplugs, sleep was impossible, especially with kids. Many windows only have a wooden grill, so we couldn’t “shield” ourselves. It wasn’t just a party; of the five nights, three were extremely loud, and the music only stopped at 2 am on the other nights, which was a weak consolation. Conversations with the owners on site didn’t help. Sometimes there were only a handful of guests, but the music could have filled an airport. The German host really tried to end the noise, and apparently it’s a general problem for many hotels that Arugam Bay becomes a party hub in peak season and the police don’t intervene for noise violations. We understand the locals need to earn money, but if we’d known this beforehand we’d have booked elsewhere—even though the villa is beautiful. A vacation without sleep isn’t real relaxation. The host offered a complimentary breakfast and dinner as a small compensation, which was a nice gesture but didn’t fully offset our frustration given the price per night. Families with younger kids should check the “party situation” beforehand. We knew the villa had no air‑con, only fans, and the original “ventilation principle” that relies on open design and sea breeze didn’t work in August.
