My partner and I stayed for a week so he could easily hit the surf spot at Barra De La Cruz; we booked an upstairs room with a balcony overlooking the break. We spent a lot of time in the hammocks, which always had a pleasant breeze. The staff were very accommodating, supplying plenty of drinking water and even bringing a coffee machine into the kitchen once. It’s a basic stay—more like camping than a hostel—and it can get hot without air conditioning, but for the price and the world‑class break you’re in, there are no complaints; we loved it!

The spot is amazing if you surf Barra: you can see the wave from the balcony and walk ten minutes to the beach. It’s set in a lovely natural environment with plenty of hummingbirds and other wildlife. Santiago and his sons were very welcoming hosts and even took us on a walk to a beautiful beach and river mouth.

It’s just a few steps from the beach. Nothing fancy, but the nature connection makes it a beautiful and special place—perfect if you’re looking for peace and disconnection. It would be better to arrive by car.
