A great place overall, but one of the housekeeping staff (I don’t remember his name) offered me drugs to trap me and possibly call the police. If he asks for your WhatsApp, say no! Luckily I don’t smoke.

They scammed us! We paid almost €200 for two nights, an outrageously high price for Indonesia. But the issue wasn’t the cost; the photos were from when it was built, very different from reality. The curtains were torn, sheets were dirty, lamps were burnt out. Walls had a lot of dampness, no hot water, and the entire bathroom was flooded by the shower. A complete disaster. We complained to the owner and he lied. We showed him the photos and the reality, and when he realized it, he offered a 50% refund if we didn’t claim it on Booking, and since we couldn’t find another place we accepted. At the end of our stay he said he had changed his mind and gave us nothing. He literally scammed us.

The staff were very friendly and eager to help, yet when we arrived they told us they could only provide two rooms with an extra bed for the first night instead of the three we had booked because they had already given the other rooms away. The extra bed arrived without linens and there weren’t enough blankets for five people to have separate ones. The air‑conditioning was switched off daily and we had to ask staff to turn it back on each time. The outdoor bathroom attracted mosquitoes in the evening, there was no hot water, and we had to reach the property by crossing a ditch with our large suitcases.

We had mixed feelings about this place. There are definitely some positives, but also things to keep in mind. We found the island location perfect. What was confusing at first was that there are two different “Santay” organizations. For example, there is a Beach Club Santay that belongs to another accommodation and not the one we stayed at. That was not entirely clear to us at first. We had no hot water. When we contacted the accommodation about it, they said there was no hot water available and that it was also in the description. We couldn’t find it ourselves. For a few days we didn’t see it as a big problem, especially given the warm weather on the island. The toilet didn’t always feel pleasant, and the water was frequently low. The bed was very hard, so we slept less comfortably. This all sounds negative, but ultimately you have to see the accommodation in the context of the island. You’re on a small island and mostly live outside. With that expectation we found it fine for a few days. The staff were friendly and the location was very good for us. If you’re looking for a simple place to stay a few days and spend most of your time outside, this is a good option. Just be aware of the points above before you go.

The reception staff were friendly, the location was great, just a short walk from the beach and far from the noisy mosque and horse stalls.
