Brisbane Quarters

The location is excellent, very close to the CBD, and the facilities like the gym and laundry are great. Overall it was clean. I do understand the check‑in policy, but I arrived very early and had to wait until 12:30 to ask if my room was ready; the guy was a bit brusque and made me wait, then told me to come back at 14:00, which I accepted. When I finally got to my room, there was only one girl and three beds that had been free since the previous day. I’m not sure why I wasn’t let in earlier.

“Boa localização”

The hostel Brisbane Quarters is very well located and easily reachable by train from the airport, situated between Central Station and Roma Street Station. The breakfast is well stocked with a decent variety of items, and you can walk to the Botanic Gardens and the Brisbane Riverbanks. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside is that there are no power plug adapters available; if you don’t buy one that works for Australia and New Zealand, you’ll have trouble charging your devices. USB‑C charging points exist only inside the rooms, not in common areas.

“Great location and staff”

The common areas and facilities are great, and the staff are incredibly friendly. I enjoyed the trivia night with free drinks and the overall lively atmosphere. However, at 10pm there’s literally nowhere to go except back to your room to unwind and reflect on your day, and if you’re still hungry, every place is closed so you’re forced to eat on the street or keep chatting outside. The hotel should find a quiet spot within the compound where guests can still talk after hours.

“Won’t come back at all”

I’ve been there many times over the past two years and it’s gotten worse each visit. My room had no AC because it was broken, so they installed a portable unit that didn’t work properly and we woke up all sweaty. That unit also required a big hose to vent outside, so they did a makeshift thing in the window with a piece of timber that wasn’t sealed correctly, preventing us from fully closing the curtain, which meant we woke up to the sunrise. The front desk guy was arrogant and useless.

The facilities are comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, and breakfast is pretty good. The location is also nice, just a few blocks from Queen Street, the botanical garden, and other attractions. I recommend staying in the pods; they’re comfy and private. The vibe, however, is basically nonexistent. There’s no sense of community, so if you’re looking for that, this isn’t the place, especially for someone new who wants to socialize. There are activities every night, but the staff seem to do them out of obligation and try to keep it low‑key, so they put in minimal effort. The staff/volunteers are friendly to a point; some prefer to stay with their AirPods and seem annoyed when you ask them something. It’s a shame because the hostel could be much more vibrant if the people were more upbeat.
