I enjoyed the stay for the price, but it’s very old‑school and largely self‑service; after checking in you need a basic understanding of these Japanese inns to feel comfortable. The location is great, right next to the surf stadium and the beach. Note that the shared bathrooms and shower area are small, the room has tatami mats, but I got used to the routine and the aunt working there was very nice.

I stayed in a clean and comfortable room, but it would have been great if the bath was available in the morning; otherwise, everything was fine.

The toilet was new and there was a tsunami evacuation point about 200 m away, but booking meals was difficult, the mattress was just a futon without a mattress pad so my back hurt, and we stayed as a group of four—three of us had feather duvets while the fourth had a cotton one.

The place is in a good spot, has an outdoor shower for rinsing surfboards, plenty of parking, is easy to find, and the staff are lovely, though I should have asked for breakfast because it looked amazing.
