The breakfast was solid, yet we got a room without a view and the walk to the hotel was littered with construction debris – not their fault. We also had a problem with the water taxi we’d booked: after a long wait it never showed up, forcing us to sprint with our luggage to the station. The hotel tried to call us to say the taxi was ready, but I never received the call.

“A pleasant hotel in a beautiful quiet location.”

A lovely historic building off the beaten path, yet close to great eateries. A vaporetto stop is just a few minutes’ walk, and you can hop onto the Grand Canal for the main sights or the north side for island trips. The breakfast room opens onto the canal and looks gorgeous, and the staff are friendly and kind. Some high‑ceiling rooms – ours included – have beds on a sleeping platform up a flight of stairs, which isn’t ideal for everyone.

“Wenn man ein Zimmer im ersten Stock bekommt, ist die Unterkunft wirklich gut.”

The place sits in a great spot, and our second room on the first floor was fine. The first room on the ground floor was damp and cold, and our clothes still smelled musty after washing. The staff did try to rebook us on the second try.

The location was perfect, the staff were friendly and offered useful suggestions for Venice, and I really appreciated the fridge and kettle in the room. I loved the pancakes at breakfast, the fresh eggs you could order, and the good coffee. The only downside was that we only received one small bottle of water for two guests; two would have been better.
