Novotel Darwin CBD

The view of the ocean was lovely, but the place feels dated and needs a facelift, and there's a mouldy smell throughout the building.

The staff were great, but clearly understaffed. The hotel is badly outdated and needs a makeover; a musty smell hit us as soon as we entered and it didn’t improve in the room. One elevator was out of service and the other was in such bad shape it had to be taken out of service. We stayed in a two‑bedroom room that looked and felt dirty even though it seemed cleaned. Late at night we saw several cockroaches in the kitchen, both TVs weren’t working, and I woke up itchy all night. I had booked a four‑night stay with my family but could only tolerate two nights and left for another place. I can’t recommend this hotel; very disappointed.

“Disappointing for a Novotel”

The location is excellent, but the property was under major construction that made it hard to get to the room or enjoy the central open area. Only one lift was working and it seemed shaky, and the staff didn’t warn us about the construction before we arrived and seemed dismissive of our concerns.

“Enjoyed the stay, hotel looks tired”

The location was excellent and the room was good, though the bathroom wasn’t as clean as expected. The staff were excellent. Only one lift was working; the other made concerning noises. On the morning we left, 4 of us were in the lift when a huge bang happened and it stopped halfway between the first and ground floors. The emergency call didn’t respond, but the glass side of the lift let us finally talk to a staff member. Inside the lift we opened the door at the same time the staff opened the outside door, and we were helped out on a small step ladder to the ground floor.

The property is close to everything. The room started to smell a bit damp after 2 days , I think this would be due to humidity from the bathroom
