“Man muss sich drauf einlassen können”
The spot right on the sea is unbeatable – you can hear the waves even from bed. The mosquito net is a lifesaver. Folks stay weeks or months, so everything seems to work. Everyone on staff is friendly, and it’s run by a family. You can eat at Auntie Glen on site, and there’s a tiny Sari Sari shop nearby; for vegetarian options I walked a bit farther along the beach where I found more choices. My hut had its own toilet, no lid or cover but with paper and a bucket. Sunrise and sunset are gorgeous. You can book trips to Black Island and the sea cows. Getting to the place is pricey, so a scooter is highly recommended. There’s an environmental tax from Coron City that stops you on the road, and the last stretch is a gravel track. On the downside, you have to like it. I knew what I was booking from the pictures, yet the first shock came upon arrival. It was odd that I was told the bathroom was outside, while I had one inside my hut. I had to confirm whether I could use it, which caused total confusion and the lady I asked seemed genuinely puzzled. Then the bathroom light wouldn’t turn on, even with the switch. I was told I had to plug it in separately – fine, no problem, but it would have been better to know that upfront. The shower in my own bathroom didn’t work either. The explanation sounded like an excuse: “oh, we’ll look into it. It might be because there was no power today.” Apparently the whole day they were working on the power lines. I arrived at 2 pm and everything that needed electricity (room light, fan) worked, including the bathroom light after I was told to plug it in. I’d say the shower never works and probably never will. Other reviews mention a broken shower too. I ended up using the shower meant for guests from room 4, which has no light at all. It wasn’t clean either – a used tampon was found in the cupboard, likely because there was no trash bin. It’s a guest issue, but it shouldn’t stay that way forever. Maybe I’m too picky, but two nights were enough. The sea isn’t great for swimming because of all the seaweed, though a few kids were in it anyway.
