Nestled between the King Harbor Marina and the bicycle strand, Shade Hotel features gorgeous rooms, a restaurant, and bar, with soft greens, tranquil blues, and exotic woods creating a serene atmosphere.

The hotel sits in a convenient area and the interior feels modern; I paid extra for a room with a view of the marina, which was lovely. The pool is too small, and it would help to have more than just a restaurant—perhaps a separate spot for drinks. The mini‑bar is pricey.

The room was spacious, had a cool edgy vibe, and was fully stocked with snacks and booze for purchase. It was almost damp upon arrival, though that detail was subtle enough that I didn’t think much of it. However, the night’s sleep was ruined by a distinct mold smell; under the bed we found mold spots and other unpleasant stains.
