“Mooie locatie, schoon, maar daar is ook alles wel mee gezegd.”
The location was good, but overall it was a disappointment.

The beach house we stayed in was situated in a beautiful spot beneath palm trees right on the beach. We were most touched by the friendliness and care of the incredibly kind people. Even though the house itself lacks Wi‑Fi, a roaming phone plan provides good coverage. Communication happens via Google Translate because they’re not fluent in English. Breakfast, drinks, and meals are served in the house or on the beach. There was a parasol with lounge chairs. Chilled coconut nuts were delicious. The place is pure and authentic. Very few tourists were around, which is true for all of Sumba. The beach is surrounded by a reef about a kilometre off the coast, so there’s little surf on the beach itself, while the roar of the waves on the reef is audible and visible. For those who want to surf on waves higher than a man's height, a beach a few kilometres further is ideal. Scooters can be rented cheaply on site. Our host went with us and showed us the area without charging anything. Speaking of caring hospitality, we had a great time. The accommodation was perfect, pure, and authentic. What’s unfortunate, and this applies to all of Sumba and supposedly other Indonesian islands, is the amount of litter you find everywhere, even on the beaches, mostly washed up from the sea, but also inland. The local people (partly themselves) cause it, and it’s sad that there’s no more governmental attention.

The family was very friendly and welcoming, and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. Tea, coffee, biscuits, and bottled water were provided in the room. It’s hard to find, with no other infrastructure or shops nearby, so take what you need as there’s not much in that area. Mosquitoes are an issue.

If you want something off the beaten path, far from crowds, this is the place. The open bamboo hut on the beachfront was very relaxing and calm. If you stay in an open bamboo hut, be prepared that at night you might encounter wildlife… I had a fox (?) come to my hut looking for dinner leftovers. It wasn’t comfortable at night in a hut without walls, even though the animal was very friendly. It’s a bit overpriced for what you get, and the food is good but nothing special by Indonesian standards. The owners use the fact that there’s nothing around so you can’t go and eat outside.
