We loved Hornsby Mill. Our room was very comfortable and quite spacious. The garden was extensive and perfect for walking the dog. We enjoyed a delicious meal one evening, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel’s proximity to Ford Abbey, a beautiful, dog‑friendly place with lovely gardens, was a bonus. The downside is that the hotel is near a busy road; to take the dog for a longer walk we had to drive to another spot.

The setting was beautiful and convenient for Chard. The only issue was that there was only a bath, no shower, which wasn’t clear when booking.

The staff were friendly and the food excellent. I would have liked a drink in the bar area before dinner, but that’s a minor thing; there’s really nothing to dislike.

The staff and surroundings were good, and the walks were pleasant and peaceful. The food was outstanding. On the downside, the mattress needed a new one because the springs were poking through. Every 30 minutes or so something would flare up below us—like a water heater—shocking you when trying to drift off. Overall, it wasn’t a good night’s sleep.

The hotel is pretty old but has lovely grounds and friendly staff. Our booking wasn’t quite right when we arrived, so the check‑in process was slow, but they sorted it out and we had no complaints, ending up with a lovely night’s stay.
