We weren’t warned about the many stairs or the lack of proper windows in our booking; the photos mixed several different rooms, and what we got was called the Torre, which I wouldn’t recommend. The wooden floors had huge gaps and were quite dirty, the kitchen was very inconvenient—there wasn’t even a pan, and the only seating was a two‑person sofa for a three‑room unit. Chairs were uncomfortable, the table tiny, lighting poor especially at night, and the doors and plumbing needed repair. There was no standard‑size socket adapter, only tiny ones. The washing machine was in a communal laundry on the ground floor. Reaching the room required three flights up the main stair and two more on a narrow wooden staircase inside, plus several steep steps into the living‑kitchen area. We asked for a change because the room shocked us and our dogs couldn’t get into the salon; they gave us the only two‑room unit available, forcing us to move back to the old room on the last day, without any refund or compensation for the two days spent shuffling between rooms and ending up with a smaller space.

The location was gorgeous and the renovation was tastefully done, with a wonderful pool that felt like a wellness retreat. Our first‑floor apartment could only be reached via a narrow spiral stair, and although two outdoor spots with benches were marked, there was no private outdoor area. The floors looked aged and creaked loudly. Neither bedroom offered space for clothes, and the second room didn’t even have a window. The kitchen tap was completely loose and the shower‑mix tap couldn’t be adjusted—it stayed scorching hot—and there was never anyone around to report these issues.

We were already on our second stay at Castello. Mainly the pool, built into the former orangery, pleased the children. The apartment was very large and clean. The facilities are wonderfully maintained. As before, there could be more dishes and glasses in the kitchen.
