The staff attitude was extremely bad, especially towards East Asians; after staying in over 40 hostels, none were as overbearing as this one. When I was asked if I wanted to use the washing machine, before I could answer, the employee snapped, “yes or no?” as if being questioned by a police officer, then told me to stand behind him while he chatted with the next Western guest, even though my paperwork wasn’t finished, making me feel utterly disrespected. The hostel has no elevator, and when I tried to lift my luggage up, the employee refused to help and showed impatience with my slow movements. I was the first receptionist I’d ever asked to help move luggage; I thought I was the only one being treated this way. Later, when I ate with other Chinese and Japanese guests, they reported being rudely treated too, which I suspect is racial discrimination—still happening in this day and age is outrageous. The hostel is very far from the main church, so I advise anyone wanting a good experience to avoid this place; after a tiring day of walking, to be treated like this is exhausting. The 42‑day pilgrimage was a long walk, and this is the only hostel that made me angry and prevented me from resting properly; if you’re an East Asian, think carefully—after a long day, you’ll want a good rest, so stay away. The price was 20 € and it’s expensive.
