The hotel had a wonderful old‑world charm from the early twentieth century, making you feel like you might run into Poirot or Hastings at any moment; the sea‑view room added extra dimension to the stay, and breakfast with a view of the bay was fantastic, of course; the staff were very correct and helpful. Occasionally a plank would creak somewhere, which fits perfectly with the atmosphere.

The location was good, but the room was cold and the heating was off; the bedroom and bathroom felt exhausted, the reception sofas were dirty, the glass doors were extremely finger‑printed, and overall the hotel was just very, very tired.
