“Loved Bayards but not the council.”
We’ve stayed here several times and each visit has met our expectations for room, service, and more. The only issue was the council’s changes to the Park & Ride. We parked at the P&R, only to discover the bus had been discontinued; September 16 was no longer considered high season, which was shocking. Online info said the 92 bus would come into the car park, but it didn’t, and the 92 bus doesn’t exist. A passerby suggested we walk to Sainsbury’s and catch the 90 bus into town, costing £5.00 for the two of us. We entered the car park around 15.00, it closes at 18.00, yet we were charged a hefty £10.00 for three hours with no P&R bus service. The P&R toilets were locked, and we had a long wait for the 90 bus. Residents of Dartmouth and other P&R users were furious about the lack of a bus and the council’s decision to treat September as low season. We’ve decided not to return to Dartmouth because of the bus, toilet facilities, and overall cost; it’s a shame, but we’re not alone—others we spoke to shared the same sentiment. Parking is too expensive, the P&R bus stopped when we still considered it high season, there was no information at the P&R about bus pick‑up locations, and an extra charge for the bus was imposed. Bayards is not to blame, but we doubt we’ll come back because of the council’s mishandling. We’ll miss you.
