The value is amazing. We got so much space and privacy for the small amount we spent. The place is cleaned regularly and Luis, the owner/manager, is really easy to deal with. If you need something in the kitchen, a quick read, or more indoor space to spread out, just help yourself as he shares. This is my second trip to Tomar and my second stay at the Templar Secrets House, and I plan to return next spring. One guest deep‑fried fish in the shared kitchen late at night, mostly the smell. We opened the outside door this morning and aired it out, so everything is better and it’s still one of my favorite places to stay.

The room door was broken and noisy to open and close, the toilet flush was broken, the toilet seat was split and stuck to a wire, the listing said breakfast was included but it wasn’t, they only offered a few kitchen items and we had to cook ourselves. When we checked out, they opened the room door without asking if anyone was inside, and we hadn’t even left yet; when we left they didn’t ask if we were satisfied or if everything had gone well. On top of that, we passed the owner who was fixing something and he didn’t even look at us. Everything was very bad. I do not recommend it to anyone.

I expected basic standards from a Guest House, not a hotel, but that doesn’t mean there are no minimum expectations. The complaint isn’t about the number of services or luxury level, but about fundamental conditions: a room free of dust smell and with clean, sweat‑free bedding. Those are basic hygiene requirements, not exclusive hotel perks. We assume sheets are washed and beds are changed, yet if the linens still carry an unpleasant odor after washing, that’s a problem that needs to be identified and fixed. It’s also essential to separate what the property promises from what the guest actually encounters. A Guest House may have simpler facilities than a hotel, but that doesn’t lower legitimate expectations for cleanliness, hygiene and basic accommodation conditions. Therefore, the criticism is fair and does not demand “hotel service”; it simply demands that the minimum rights any guest has when booking accommodation are respected. Finally, the current rating reflects recent guest experiences. A past rating of 8.0 does not guarantee it will stay that high forever or justify dismissing current reviews. What matters is the quality being offered today. The aim of this comment is not to demand luxury, but to highlight a very concrete issue: a Guest House can be simple, but it must be clean, hygienic and provide bedding in proper condition.
