The location was great, but the place was far from clean and looked run down. The staff were rude, parking was a nightmare, and the bed was so uncomfortable that it ruined the trip.

Everything was spot on: the staff were welcoming and helpful, and breakfast was superb. The quirky touches around the hotel fit the vibe perfectly. The only downside was arriving late at night; the back‑door entrance was poorly lit, and I think we took the wrong entrance. The left‑hand side of the hotel could use better lighting.

Finding the hotel was easy with satnav, and parking was right next to the entrance, though it can fill up and block your car. After check‑in and check‑out, there was little staff interaction. Our room on the upper level was warm and inviting, with old beams and an uneven floor adding character. The bed was comfortable. Wi‑Fi was weak and kept dropping out, almost unusable. The bathroom was small; low water pressure and air in the pipes caused the hot water faucet to sputter until the air cleared. My spouse gave up on a bath because the tub took too long to fill. A few cobwebs where beams met the wall on the window end were the only visible dirt. Minor maintenance issues included a missing shower knob, a shower that stopped for a minute before resuming (only on the first night), and grout that needed cleaning. The sliding bathroom door was off its track, and the stored Hoovers by the room were an eyesore that detracted from the ambiance. Because of the low beams in the room and shower, room 5 may not be ideal for taller guests.

The property was exceptional, quirky, and had every facility you could need. The location was perfect, set in a beautiful environment. I couldn’t find anything to criticize.

The hotel was lovely, with great service and excellent food. It felt a bit overpriced, though.
