“Gemütliche, gesellige Lodge mit einer sehr netten und bemühten Gastgeberin”
We spent a week at Lodge 1854 to explore the Vulkaneifel, and it was perfect for beautiful day trips. The lodge itself is a lovingly restored farmhouse from 1854, which explains the name. The room we rented was practical, with a small kitchenette that’s handy for making coffee, tea and simple meals. There was a microwave, but we never used it. Instead, the communal kitchen on the floor below and a BBQ grill and pizza oven in a lovely herb garden were far better. The mix with other guests was very friendly. The charming restaurant “Ecke” is just a short walk away and highly recommended. There’s also a village shop, so food is covered on site. The lodge is very family‑friendly, with a huge garden that has play equipment and a small swimming pool. Technically, Lodge 1854 lacks nothing. There’s even a spacious billiards and game room that invites socialising when the weather outside isn’t great. The human atmosphere is exceptionally positive, largely thanks to Tamara, who lovingly cares for the house and guests and is always ready to solve problems – though we didn’t need her help. In short, Lodge 1854 is a cosy, social place where you quickly forget everyday life and enjoy people and nature. Other guests noted that the lodge is close to a country road and railway line, but don’t let that discourage you! My partner and I are extremely noise‑sensitive, yet traffic never bothered us. The traffic density in this remote area is very low and truly bearable, and the nights were consistently very quiet, even on weekends.
