Finding the hotel was a bit of a nightmare – the entrance isn’t signposted and you have to go to the downstairs restaurant to get the key. When I tried calling the listed number, the owner cut the line as soon as I switched to English or Polish, leaving me outside at night until the bartender, who was surprisingly patient despite the language gap, showed me to my room. The room sits right above the restaurant, so it’s pretty noisy, and you can only pay in cash.

A simple, tidy room with its own kitchen counter, table and fridge, right in the centre of town. The apartments sit above a pub with a courtyard, so it wasn’t very quiet and the mattress felt too soft for our liking.

The owners are genuinely kind and wonderful people – I’d happily return to them and to the charming town of Dvůr Králové. The town itself is picturesque and the zoo is spectacular, with huge enclosures that make it well worth a visit.

The accommodation was decent – clean, quiet and had everything you need for a night’s stay. I liked the straightforward comfort and the lack of any disturbance.

The owner was very pleasant and helpful, and the kids enjoyed having the garden to play in. The lodging was basic but sufficient, and the tiny kitchen served two people fine, although we missed a few bowls. The lady at the restaurant when we arrived seemed clueless and mentioned she was just a temporary worker. They don’t take card payments, which caught us off guard, there’s no TV, and the floor cleaning could be better.
