The staff were incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was great. The location and facilities were excellent, and the meals were both reasonably priced and delicious. I definitely recommend staying here.
“Relaxed, lovely food, nice atmosphere, chilled”
We chose this remote spot because we’d been to Jeremy Clarksons pub and wanted to see James Mays, so we booked it. Overall, if we hadn’t known James was a part owner of the pub, it wasn’t obvious except that James gin was on sale. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere was very relaxed.
Everything was great, from the staff to sitting in the garden with a beer and dinner. The only thing was that I missed James by a day, but I did see the alfa wheels he dropped off. Maybe next time, James, and I’ll buy you a pint.
“Just book it. Don't consider anywhere else!”
The Royal Oak was absolutely amazing—every part of the experience was stunning. The staff were wonderful, the room was spacious with modern touches yet still had old‑English charm, and the food and drinks were top tier. I’m already thinking about another visit. It’s in a fairly remote village, so if you’re not used to driving on narrow British B‑roads, take your time getting there, but the location makes the place so peaceful. It’s probably one of the best places I’ve ever stayed.
The room was large and well equipped, and there was plenty of parking. The staff were generally friendly—better even than the Sunday morning team! The food was excellent, well prepared, and tasty. The downside was that the room was close to the kitchen and above the vent system, so it was pretty noisy at times. When the kitchen was closed it wasn’t an issue, but on Sunday the kitchen staff came in early and played loud music while preparing breakfast. There was also a water gurgling noise (radiator pipes).
