“The Parsons -Musselburgh”
The building itself was lovely, and the shower in our room was brilliant. Breakfast and bar meals were great, and it was nice to have a fridge in the room. I didn’t realize the swimming pool was open to a local swimming club and for children’s swim lessons, which left very little space in the pool for guests to use. Also four light bulbs were not working.
“Trevligt ställe”
The hotel was located in the countryside, but that didn’t matter because the area was lovely. The breakfast could use some improvement.
“Really disappointing visit asthma was also playing up but that happens when so much dust about”
The staff were lovely and friendly. The room’s location was great, with a door close to the outside so we didn’t have to go through the hotel. The room had a fridge to keep our dog’s food and my husband’s insulin, and the bathroom was lovely. However, our room was not clean: dust on the shelf where mugs and the kettle were, and the drawers for clothes were very dusty, so when I took out my clothes in the morning they were all covered in dust. I told reception that I wanted to speak with the manager. I paid a lot of money for our two nights and was shocked to see how the standard had dropped. No one has contacted me since I got home, even though I was told they would be in touch. The back door was not locked, posing a security risk, and there was no path at the back, which was dark during the winter months.
“Ok but not great. Decent value and spa. Location a bit remote without car.”
Good value and location for our short break but no access to public transport. Car essential or taxis reqd. Spa was good. Buffet breakfast was ok but not made aware other requests could be made if preferred so not clearly advertised. No Scottish draft beers in bar. Poor choice of foreign lagers or a cider. Disappointed. Hotel slightly remote so couldn’t even walk to nearby pub for drink. Car reqd or taxis
“Escape”
The rooms are spacious enough to sit in, and the beds are just the right size and feel comfortable. The bathroom comes with a double shower and everything is spotless. There’s no spa, just a pool that’s perfect for relaxing, though it’s only 1.2 m deep, so it’s not for serious swimming. The jacuzzi is generous, and there’s a sauna too. Breakfast is standard but offers plenty of options, and the staff keep the buffet well stocked at all times. The area around the hotel is beautiful, so you can enjoy a walk. I’d definitely recommend it for a short stay. We booked twice for different reasons: the first was a private visit and everything was perfect, but the second was a party and the evening service was delayed, causing a long wait for everyone to get their meals. Extra staff during big events would have helped.
