Palmenwald is a beautiful building near the centre (a short walk), renovated yet furnished in an old‑style that gives it a very cosy atmosphere; the staff are very friendly, breakfast is plentiful and varied, the bar in the basement is very cosy, and the wellness area includes two saunas and a large pool where you can relax; there’s also an outdoor area and a huge selection of wellness offerings that are executed very well.

The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, and the service staff were exceptionally attentive and kind. Breakfast and dinner were good, and the room was very quiet with a very clean bathroom. However, on the arrival day there were no bathrobes or towels in the room. When we asked at the front desk we were given a large towel each. Bathrobes were not clean at that time; they only appeared the next morning after we requested them. The bathroom only had two hooks for two people, so there was one hook for a towel and one for a robe, meaning neither could dry properly. There were no hooks for coats or jackets and no luggage rack, so the suitcases lay on the floor and blocked the way. The suite had carpet (allergy!), even though the online photos showed hardwood floors. We could not change rooms when we asked. The bedroom curtain was torn and dirty, and on the sofa next to the pillows there were still items left by the previous guest (a comb and a cream tube). The standing lamp in the bedroom could not be turned on or off, only by unplugging it.

A beautifully historic hotel with so much charm; the balcony offers a wide view, the location is great—walking distance to the market square and the start of hiking trails; the staff are very friendly, the wellness area lovely, and we’ll definitely return.
