I spent two nights on house boat number 5, and while there were a few positives and negatives, the pros were that the location was lovely, there’s a pub next door, staying on a house boat by the river is a fun novelty, the kitchen was fully equipped with all cutlery and utensils, there was plenty of parking, and self‑check‑in was easy. The cons were that the lodge itself could have been cleaner, there was beard hair on the cooker, and the lodge just needed a better deep clean in general; the kettle had an unbelievable amount of limescale inside, thick white with limescale; the toilet on our houseboat (number 5) was broken, both the lid and the seat; the mattress in the main bedroom wasn’t very comfortable, it was an old soft spring mattress with not enough support for my back, though others may find it okay; the internet speed was only 3‑5 mb, so if you have more than two people watching YouTube you’ll get buffering; it was barely usable for WhatsApp and browsing Google (Amazon Firestick kept buffering); finally you can hire a small rowing boat for £50, which I thought was quite expensive for what they are, £25 would be much more reasonable; overall it was just a little bit tired and run down.

The location was great, but the equipment was inadequate.

I had a very enjoyable four‑night stay; the houseboat was spot on and a refreshing change from the norm, the location is great with loads to do in the area just a short drive away, and the bonus of a good pub a very short walk away.
