Very peaceful. The single beds had no support; I’m light but the springs were old and it was very uncomfortable. We couldn’t use the stove because it didn’t work.

We booked all the cottages, so we enjoyed the whole property and hanging out with family and friends around the braai fires; the beds and linen were excellent and high quality – we slept like babies :-) The history and feel of the 250+ year old restored buildings were a highlight. One of the dogs on the property wandered into our cottage and tried to climb onto the kitchen counter to get food, breaking some items, and also tried to get food out of our bin, leaving a messy kitchen; but we’ll take some blame because our daughter didn’t close the front door properly.

This cottage is something truly special. Don't expect a 5-star resort, but you'll get to experience the simple charm of an old house in complete peace and quiet. The farm's adorable dogs visited us, and the rooster woke us up every morning. It's just a short stroll to Stellenbosch. We were also lucky enough to get a tour of the whole farm and learn about wine-making. Special thanks to Zoë for her great communication.

Natte Valleij has a certain laid-back charm that's hard to resist. The family running the place is super friendly and makes you feel right at home. It's not the most modern place, but that's part of its charm – it's got a bit of character that's missing from some of the more polished hotels I've stayed in.
