“Average”
The place is in a great spot, just 4 minutes from Petra’s visitor centre. The room was roomy, well lit, and secure. Compared to my Amman hotel, which was 10 minutes from the citadel in the old town, this one cost 14 Jordanian dinars more. In Amman I received a bottle of water per day plus another in the fridge, but at Petra Agora I got none. The TV was broken; setting it up was a hassle and when I asked the reception guy he said it was windy and there was no signal. On the last night someone else at reception fixed it, but it stopped working again when I returned to my room. In Amman my room was cleaned daily and the bins were emptied, but at Petra Agora they only clean if you ask, and nobody mentioned that at reception. In a country where toilet paper isn’t flushed, a bin that stays full for days is just unhygienic. The shower was fine, though the head needed a bit of cleaning to improve flow. My Amman hotel included breakfast for the price, 14 dinars cheaper, whereas here they wanted extra money for breakfast. The air conditioning was acceptable but didn’t get cold enough and was extremely noisy. I asked at reception if the restaurant across the street was good and he told me to go to his mom’s restaurant instead. Overall, it wasn’t fantastic – and unlucky for them, I compared it with another hotel and they fell short. I’d advise management to train reception staff on communication, leave instructions in the room for using the TV and aircon, and offer hospitality – after all the country is known for it – and a bottle of water goes a long way! No daily room cleaning or at least emptying of bins. TV wasn’t working, was told signal was down, then told a different story. No bottle of water in the room. Air con very loud. Toilet flush button sticks and wastes water. No place on sink to put anything, no shelf.
