“Niet verschrikkelijk, maar niet voor herhaling vatbaar.”
The room was clean and nice, and the location was spot on. But when we arrived, the room was already 26 °C, and the host told us we could call anytime about the heating. We did, asking if the heat could be lowered, but they said it couldn't be fixed unless someone came on site, and no one did. So we slept the whole night in an uncomfortably hot room. The windows were open, so we had almost no privacy because we were on the street side. Breakfast was also confusing; we asked if we could pay on site for a breakfast the next morning, the lady checked but we heard nothing else, and we got no breakfast. Other minor issues: no Wi‑Fi code info, no TV cabinet. Overall, we didn’t have a comfortable night; it felt like a hot summer night. For the price we expected a lot more.
The toilet in the room had no door.
“Goede ligging, slechte communicatie”
The location was good. Reception: despite having to inform them in advance of our arrival time, we waited more than an hour. We called several times and they kept saying someone would come. At arrival the heating was at 27 °C, making the room too warm, and the heating couldn’t be adjusted. The people present (not the owner) didn’t know how to fix it and told us to leave the windows open.
“Baufällige ungepflegte Unterkunft.”
The proximity to the beach would have been great, but you have to cross a heavily trafficked street or take a 15‑minute detour to the next traffic light. The place was in disrepair when I stayed, giving an extremely unkempt vibe. Dead flies on the window sills, insect larvae, spiders and nets everywhere, mold, rust… Luckily I only had one night there. I slept in my clothes. I skipped breakfast for hygiene reasons. Communication was unfriendly and unhelpful from the start. An early check‑in for luggage would have cost extra, which I declined because the room seemed overpriced compared to others. (Alternatively, a central hotel was offered for luggage storage.) At the agreed 15:00 check‑in, no one was there. The front door was open (the glass panes were broken and full of spiders and nets, spooky). In the construction pit behind the house in the garden, a worker was present but spoke neither French nor English, let alone German. After a long back‑and‑forth, he called a responsible person. All in all, it took about 30 minutes until I finally got my room key. The first‑floor room was accessed by a narrow winding staircase. With luggage, after already having to climb several steps without a ramp, it was not fun. When I complained that no one could help if there was no lift, I was shouted at by a very aggressive person on the phone, saying that in a "villa" there would never be a lift. The room was overloaded with a tasteless jumble of furniture from a flea market, an oversized sofa blocked the wardrobe, and the psychedelic wallpaper behind it made the overall impression even worse. The bathroom lighting didn’t work in the back part near the toilet. Maybe that’s better.
“We voelden ons opgelicht”
The room was nice. We never saw the host. The key was left in the flower pot. There was no drink or food available, no honesty bar, no coffee, no water. Breakfast was absent – for 20 € per person a tray could have been brought (we didn’t opt for that).
