“Pleasant but lacks luggage storage”

Berkeley Hotel guesthouse offers well‑appointed rooms; the bed, bedding, furnishings and decor are all top quality. Its location is convenient for beach access and nearby restaurants. Unfortunately, there was no place to store luggage before or after check‑in, so we had to pay for a luggage storage service a 15‑minute walk away – I would have chosen another place had I known. The room faced an internal courtyard with limited airflow, making it warm and stuffy even with a small fan during the height of summer.

“Pleasant stay convenient for our purposes but not 4 star.”

The welcome was friendly and efficient, and the free toffee spot was handy. However, the toiletries were inadequate, and tea, coffee and milk were lacking (the manager later supplied more). The toilet flush was poor and the shower was not hot on arrival, though it warmed up later; the shower itself was weak. We had switched our booking from the 3‑star Pier Hotel to the 4‑star Berkeley at the same price, but it did not feel up to four‑star standards.

The location was good. The rules and regulations were strict, with many stairs. The shower in room 10 had weak pressure and took a long time to heat up. We had booked a double bed but were given a twin. One of the sheets had a stain.

“Well recommended, excellent place, good location.”

The host was very lovely. I received a phone call about my check‑in; it was a day when all taxis were busy, so I managed to check in after 7 pm. She understood. It was a tiring day after my locum shift at the hospital. I had a nice, spacious, very clean room in a good location, slept well, and was ready to work the next day. Highly recommended; everything was of high standard.
