We chose Hotel Alpha due to its proximity to Sant Agnello station as we intended to visit Herculaneum and Pompeii during our short stay. The room was large with a balcony that faced the sea (which was further away than we thought from the website) but it was great to watch the sun going down from inside our air-conditioned room and see Vesuvius through the trees. The bathroom was a good size and everything was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great with many different options to choose from (Tiramisu for breakfast? Why not!) We also ate out in the fruit grove two nights - the pizzas were delicious. The staff are friendly and helped us book taxis on several occasions. It was a short train ride or a 25-minute walk into Sorrento which is a lovely town to visit. For a birthday meal we went to the nearby coast at Marinella for a super meal over-looking the sea and that sunset at Paravisiello Bar & Restaurant. The loud music until 11.30 one evening for a large coach party, this was followed up by 30-minutes of local fireworks until midnight (not much the hotel could do about that!). We also could not dine in the main restaurant one night as the coach party had its own event. There is a flight of steps to get into the reception which one of our group found difficult after a long day out, especially when the lift was out of action and we were on the second floor! Prices in the Sorrento area are expensive and Hotel Alpha cost considerably more per night than we would normally pay even though it is some distance from the town centre. The temperatures were in the mid-30s and there wasn't even a complimentary bottle of water in the room, like so many other places we have stayed at, but a small bottle in the fridge cost 2 euros when the supermarket up the road sells 2L bottles at 1.50eu. In summary it was a good place to stay but for the price it didn't have the wow factor

Michael was the only good thing about our stay; he was very friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area. Our stay started disappointing and got progressively worse. Loud music played directly under our balcony until 11:30 on our second night, the second consecutive night of music. When we complained about this the next day at 7 am, we were shrugged off and told there was no more music under our balcony, but the noise continued for the rest of our stay. While out for the day, we received WhatsApp messages asking us to use the ironing board (we were not told there was an ironing board) and to call reception each time we wanted to use it because the hotel only had one ironing board. Along with a message to come to reception for a discussion after our complaint, we politely asked for an ironing board and to be left alone. When we returned to the hotel after the morning complaint, we were bombarded with calls asking us to come to the bar for a drink, which we politely declined. The next day, after another day out, reception asked for a chat, and we replied that we’d raised it because we felt very uncomfortable with the number of unsolicited calls and messages. There were many ants and bugs around the pool area, and the grass area was long and unkept. We asked to change the pool towel once and were told any other changes would cost €5 per person. The room was not cleaned during our stay; the same sheets were remade, the floor was not mopped, the bath mat was filthy, and overall cleanliness was poor. The hotel responded to my message and said the complaint had been passed to the hotel.

The location is quiet, the garden is beautiful, the pool is great, and the staff are super friendly and accommodating. The hotel is a bit old (but that doesn’t bother us), and the cleanliness could be better for us personally, or at least what we are used to.
